The city of Ottawa is starting the search for a candidate to build the large “urban park” planned for the eastern part of a redeveloped Lansdowne Park.

According to Tender documents, the qualifying process seeks “are most capable of undertaking the construction of the urban park proper and meeting the high-quality design intent of the landscape architect”

The park is a major part of the plans for the redeveloped Glebe site, which is also to feature a renovated Frank Clair Stadium along with residential space, stores and restaurants.

The company that’s eventually chosen will work with Phillips Farevaag Smallen-berg, the Vancouver-based firm that won a design competition for the park.

The documents also state: “The overall design of the urban park is near completion, and the successful contractor will be expected to work with the landscape architect throughout the construction implementation to ensure a high-quality of work while ensuring good value and maintaining a strict budget,”

The company’s work would include mechanical and electrical components, lighting, landscaping, irrigation, paving and construction of a three-season ice rink, the documents state. It’ll also provide connections for a water plaza and public art.

Work on the park is expected to begin this summer and go ahead in phases before it’s completely finished in April of 2015.
