What it does: It’s considered one of the biggest construction companies in the world with several subsidiaries. Dragados, a construction company under the ACS umbrella, is also involved in the Ottawa LRT project.
Past projects: The 91,000-employee company says nearly half of its sales are in the Asia Pacific. It has been involved in work on the New York subway and highways in Europe, U.S. and Canada.

Corporate headquarters: London, Ont.
Year founded: 1951
What it does: The Canadian construction company has offices across the country, including one in Ottawa.
Past projects: The company is a major contractor for the Lansdowne Park renovation. One the company’s most famous design-build projects was SkyDome (now the Rogers Centre) in Toronto. It’s currently renovating and expanding the Union Station subway infrastructure.

Year founded: 1911
What it does: SNC-Lavalin is one of Canada’s largest construction and engineering companies with vast international experience.
Past projects: Recent transportation projects include the Canada Line rapid transit system in Vancouver, Montreal metro extension to Laval, Calgary LRT west extension and rail projects in France.

VEOLIA TRANSPORTATION
Corporate headquarters: Lombard, Ill.
Year founded: 1853 (parent company Veolia Environmental)
What it does: The 18,000-employee company plans and manages transportation systems, particularly when it comes to integrating light rail and bus networks.
Past projects: Veolia currently operates York Region’s bus rapid transit system, as well as bus systems in Las Vegas and Colombia. The company runs LRT systems in San Diego and France.
